What it is
Rooting for Us is a friendly competition between ten plant families. It runs in the weeks leading up to Plant Provenance’s launch on December 19, 2026. Each family is linked to a plant society. When the campaign ends, the family with the most points earns a conservation donation for its society.
Joining is free. You don’t have to buy anything, now or later.
Who can join
Anyone who signs up through the Rooting for Us form on plantprovenance.com and confirms their email address. Each person can sign up once, with one email address.
Dates
- Opens: Wednesday, October 28, 2026
- Closes: Friday, December 18, 2026, at 23:59 (Central European Time)
- Results: Saturday, December 19, 2026, launch day
The plant families
When you sign up, you pick one plant family. That’s the team your sign-up and your votes count for. You can’t change your family later.

Some of these groups aren’t botanical families in the strict sense. Hoyas are a genus, for example. We grouped plants the way collectors talk about them.
How points work
- 10 points for every confirmed signup in a plant family
- 1 point for every daily vote cast for a plant family
After you confirm your email, you get a personal voting link. You can vote once per day, for your own plant family only. A voting day runs from midnight to midnight, Central European Time.
Family goals
Plant societies differ a lot in size. To keep it fair, each family has its own goal based on its society’s size. The standings show each family’s progress toward that goal as a percentage, along with the raw numbers. The family with the highest percentage wins.
Standings
We post updates on Saturdays on
Instagram,
YouTube Shorts, and
Facebook, with the current standings and where our founding members come from.
Fair play
- One signup per person and one vote per person per day.
- Votes from duplicate or fake signups don’t count.
- We may discount sudden, unusual spikes in signups or votes after reviewing them.
- In case of a tie, a member of our team who is not involved in running the campaign decides.
The win
The winning family’s society receives a donation of
€100 for its conservation work. We announce the winner and the recipient on December 19, 2026.
If “Other” wins, the donation goes to a botanical garden with a conservation program in the country with the most signups. We name the garden on December 19.
What founding members get
Everyone who joins through Rooting for Us is a founding member of Plant Provenance. Founding members get
30% off the first year of Plus or Pro. To get it, upgrade within 60 days of the paid tiers going live.
Plant Provenance itself is free. Plus and Pro are optional and are designed for our commercial users.
Your profile
On the signup form, you can choose to let us create your Plant Provenance profile in advance. If you tick that box, we use your name, email address, plant family, favorite genus, and country to set up your profile before launch. On December 19, you get an email to set your password and claim it.
If you don’t tick the box, we don’t create a profile. You can still sign up yourself after launch.
